Shepard Fairey – Now and Then

Well I guess it was inevitable…

Sometime during the overnight hour of Friday some fantastic person(s) decided that Shepard Fairey wasn’t for them and defamed the mural he put up on our exterior wall of October 22nd, 2008.

I guess in the grand scheme of things five months of having it up there in all it’s glory isn’t half bad, but still, it was pretty amazing. Especially after the word got out and people started coming here just to see it. Oh well…

Here’s what it looked like the day Shepard put it up:

To the person(s) that did this. When you goto sleep tonight know that you’re awesome. Awesome like emptying my cats litter box.

Love and Kisses,

Your friends at Grand

PS – We hope  you at the very least puked when you got home from your drunken tirade and now are hungover.

Stumble It!

weird, the shepard fairey mural in the south end (on rutland and shawmut ave) was also defaced last night (someone spraypainted a message about it being an abomination of some sort). what a shame.

The couple who has posted the Shepard Fairey’s poster on their South End Rutland Street home violated the neighborhood in a number of ways. First, since it’s outside of their home, they should have respected their neighbors and asked their opinion first. Particularly the ones that view it from their homes. Second it’s subjective art. At the same time it’s graffiti and encourages more graffiti to the neighborhood. May be we should all post our art up or spray paint where we want. Third, Fritz has not complied with the Landmark decision. They are to post a notice that explains what their “art” is and why its on the wall. They were to do this immediately after the decision. By the way, the South End Historical Society voted to remove it. Why have they not done this? How can Fritz ask for respect if he doesn’t learn who his neighbors are and ask opinions. Now his home is monitored by video cameras and he asked the police for help. The police arrested Fairey so why would they care if the poster was wrecked? I find Fritz’s recent acts so disrespectful and selfish.
