Let there be lights!

We’ve been getting tons of new stuff in lately, from super new items by Yellow Owl Workshop to old favorites like Umbra and Field Notes. We’re especially excited about the brand new lamps that just arrived in the store. Tesselight Lamps are made by Somerville’s very own Christine Hamilton. While the picture below gives a pretty good idea of how amazing they are, they’re even more amazing up close and in person!

The name Tesselight is derived from the word “tessellation,” a term for the type of pattern created by the repetition of geometric shapes. Tesselights are entirely handcrafted, made by cutting and folding Canson Mi-Tientes drawing paper into tiles that are then sewn together using crochet thread. Though delicate in appearance, Tesselights are sturdy and will last a lifetime when well cared for. They can be used with both portable cord kits and hardwire pendants.

Also, stay tuned because we have a bunch of super exciting events coming up in August involving some of our favorite things (and yours too, we’re betting)!

July Sip & Shop this Saturday!

So, where did July go?! We’re not sure, and we’re a little freaked out at how quickly summer is going by, but at least it’s almost time for the July Sip & Shop! Please join us this Saturday, July 25, from 2-6 pm. We’ll be serving up super tasty drinks, and as usual everything in the store will be 10% off!!

This month we’ll be partnering with Leblon Cachaça! What’s Cachaça, you ask? Cachaça (ka-SHAH-sa) is made from fresh-pressed cane juice fermented and distilled, and can only come from Brazil. And what do you do with this tasty spirit? Well, you make a Caipirinha, which is muddled fresh lime and sugar, and Leblon Cachaça. Think of it as a mojito, but a lil different. And super tasty and perfect for summer!

Hope to see you there!

More Construction (Again), and Magnificent Creatures of the Sea

Yes, it seems like just yesterday when our lovely storefront was blocked by giant cranes and we were serenaded with the sweet sweet sounds of drilling. And now it’s back! Don’t get us wrong, we are super psyched for our fancy new sidewalks, we’re just a little bit bummed that we’re finally getting some great weather (fingers crossed it stays) and we’re surrounded by a moat of dirt. But we’re staying open throughout the construction (hopefully done in a few weeks? we hope? pretty please?) and are doing our best to stay accessible for you!

And to get a feel for what all of this construction madness is about, check out this rendition of our lil’ neck of the woods from the city of Somerville. As you can see, not only will we live and be happy above ground, but apparently the human race of Somerville will also live underground. Take that, Boston and Cambridge!

But we’re not going to let all this stop us from stocking up with awesome new goods! We just received a shipment from Wonder Thunder in Seattle, WA and are super excited about it…awesome tea towels, pillows, plush, and tees which you will not find elsewhere in the Boston area. And really, couldn’t we all use a Mini Octopus Pocket Friend right about now?

Stop by soon and check it out! And don’t forget to hit the rest of Union Square this Saturday, July 11th, for the Farmer’s Market and Boston Handmade Marketplace!

Now with Vintage Power!

Ever since we opened, people have always asked, “are you ever going to sell vintage?” To which we always replied, “maybe, at some point, if it makes sense.” Well, we finally decided that it does make sense and “at some point” is now!

We both grew up in families of collectors and are big fans of vintage housewares and clothing (as anyone who has been to either of our houses can attest). And while vintage may not fit into our mission statement of “contemporary design,” it’s definitely unique, which is another quality we try to achieve in our products. So we are officially on the hunt for the coolest one-of-a-kind vintage finds for you and yours! Starting, um, last week, look for lots of “new” vintage items, from decorative pottery to fancy frocks. Check out the images below for a sneak peek!
